What options are available for tomorrow’s forestry workforce? Oregon high school students will interact with a diverse cross-section of business, government and non-profit leaders at the 2010 Forest Sector Careers Conference on Feb. 23 at the World Forestry Center in Portland. First held in 2008, this conference will give students a better understanding of educational requirements and career opportunities in the current employment climate.

OFRI educational ads to air in coming weeks |

Two new educational television ads promoting sound forest practices and sustainability are set to air this spring. These educational ads will be aired on Portland-area television stations – which are also seen widely via repeater and cable throughout 28 Oregon counties – beginning March 1.
The ads will be available to view on OFRI’s new video library, also launching around the same time. Current and past OFRI advertising will be available for viewing at oregonforests.org.

OFRI Outlook, our quarterly update on the programs and efforts of the Institute, is becoming a new electronic publication with color photos, helpful online links and file downloading. A printed version will no longer be available starting with the summer edition.
Update your contact information
We need to update the OFRI contact database to ensure you receive the newsletters you wish to receive. A new online contact form will be live on OFRI’s Web site in the coming weeks. Look for updates in the coming OFRI News or on the final printed edition of OFRI Outlook this spring.

Tree School celebrates its 20th anniversary this year with an array of classes for forest landowners taught by highly skilled members of Oregon’s forest sector, including OFRI’s own Norie Dimeo-Ediger, Mike Cloughesy and Peter Matzka. Four Tree Schools will be hosted in the coming months:

Upcoming conference examines forest health in Oregon |

The College of Forestry at Oregon State University invites you to attend "Forest Health in Oregon: State of the State" Feb. 24 and 25. During this conference, multiple presentations will address the overall issues relating to growth loss and mortality in our forests.

State agencies recognize forest landowners for habitat restoration |

Four forest land managers received awards from the Oregon Fish and Wildlife Commission and the Board of Forestry for their work to improve fish and wildlife resources through forest stewardship activities.
The 2009 award winners are:
