The College of Forestry at Oregon State University invites you to attend "Forest Health in Oregon: State of the State" Feb. 24-25. During this conference, multiple presentations will address the overall issues relating to timber loss and mortality in our forests.
Presentations will address:
- weather and climate change;
- forest fire;
- forest insect damage;
- forest disease assessments;
- weed control;
- wildlife managemen.

Just a few volunteer slots remain open for forest engineer presenters during National Engineers Month in February.
National Engineers Month matches volunteer presenters with math and science classrooms for one-hour presentations. To participate, visit the Business Education Compact Web site and follow the links for National Engineers Month. You can also e-mail Julie Woodward for more information.

Mark your calendar for the SAF's Leadership Conference |

All Society of American Foresters members from Washington and Oregon are invited to participate in the Pacific Northwest leadership conference in Eatonville, Wash., Jan. 29-30. An optional field workshop will take place on Jan. 28 in the Pack Forest.
The goal of the leadership conference is to:
- discover practical leadership principles;
- learn our role in national regional forest policy;
- negotiate with elected and business leaders; and
- strategically plan fundraising efforts.
The Pack Forest field workshop will feature:
- RMZ buffer / harvest demonstrations;
- reconstructed wetland projects;
- variable retention harvest areas; and
- FSC-guided successional alder harvesting.

Board of Forestry awards top loggers of 2009 |

Three Oregon companies with a reputation for professionalism, skill and commitment to protecting natural resources were named as the state’s Forest Practices Operators of the Year for 2009. The Oregon Board of Forestry honored this past year’s winning operators during the board's Jan. 6 meeting.
