Pacific Logging Congress: School Reservation Form UPDATE: THIS EVENT HAS FILLED UP. WE ARE NO LONGER ACCEPTING RESERVATIONS. Every four years, the Pacific Logging Congress offers the “In the Woods Show,” a live demonstration of logging equipment in action. A primary goal of the PLC is to increase education and awareness of the benefits Oregon's forests provide and the industries associated with them. Education programs are offered the first two days of the event September 15 and 16, 2010. This event was last held in the Portland area in 2006, and drew nearly 2,000 students from local schools to view a variety of forestry activities. PLC 2010 will take place near Clatskanie, about an hour west of Portland. To encourage participation, the fully insured free event includes a professional forester or woodland owner to guide each class, hard hats for each student for the day, reimbursement for the bus transportation to and from your school and a comprehensive packet of material given to each teacher for the class to use in conjunction with the tour. This is an opportunity to help students make connections between their everyday use of forest products and the natural resource from which they are derived. The day offers a chance for students in grades 5-12 to be inspired about forestry careers, witness high-tech engineering, see state-of-the-art equipment and learn how Oregon’s forest protection laws guide forestry across the state. This event will be held in Clastkanie, Oregon (approximately one hour west of Portland). Allow a minimum of 2 hours to tour the site. Space is limited. Early registration is required. |
