The Diversity of Wood Products

Previous | Page Index | Next
Oregon’s wood and paper products are sold in all 50 states and some 40 foreign countries. More than 5,000 products we use every day are made from wood; and perhaps today you walked on it, wore it, brushed your teeth with it, slept on it, were in a building constructed from it or read a newspaper, book or computer printout made with it. Chances are your new computer or other new purchases were packaged in a corrugated container made from wood pulp. These are some types of wood products Oregon provides for the nation and the world:
Lumber / Engineered Wood Products
Oregon leads the nation in lumber production by a wide margin and produces such engineered wood products as laminated beams, I-joists and laminated veneer lumber.
Panel Products
/Millwork
Panel products include structural plywood, particleboard, hardboard, oriented strand board, interior paneling and stock panels for cabinets and furniture. Oregon-made products in this category include door and window frames, decorative moldings, fencing material, staircases, interior paneling, plywood, strand board and medium-density fiberboard.
Pulp, Paper and Chemical Products
Oregon manufactures newsprint, fine coated and uncoated printing papers, photocopy paper, egg cartons and all sorts of food containers and packaging materials. Wood residues are used to make resins, glues, cosmetics and certain plastics.
Miscellaneous Products

Other Oregon-made products include furniture, playground equipment, wood crafts and utensils, wood toys, office partitions, cabinets and pencil stock. Wood derivatives also are used in certain medicines. For example, people throughout the world with cancer and Parkinson’s disease are taking drugs derived from trees.
